June Herb of The Month

June 13th, 2020 • Posted by Terry Lawvor Miller • Permalink

The taste and smell of rose invokes a feeling of summer – it makes a delicious iced tea on a hot summer’s day, cooling the senses and the body.
Rosehip seed oil is an excellent source of vitamins and skin-nourishing fatty acids, both of which are important for keeping skin smooth, soft and supple. This makes it an excellent addition to any skincare product.

HABITAT
The Damask Rose (Rosa damascena) originated in the Middle East and was brought to Europe in the 13th century. The dog rose (used for its rosehips) is native to the UK and can be found wild amongst hedges and field borders.
Rose plants love rich soil and sun for at least 5 hours a day!

DID YOU KNOW?
We have around 600 damask rose bushes in the herb gardens at our eco factory
in Dorset. When they bloom from June onwards,
they are handpicked and made into rose tincture on site.
It takes 1 kilo of rose petals to make between 250-300ml of tincture!
